Joann Hinson Conca

OAK ISLAND- Joann Phillips Hinson Conca, 75, of Oak Island, passed away Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Mrs. Conca was born in Charlotte on Aug. 20, 1938, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Barron Randolph Phillips. She lived in Charlotte for many years before moving to Oak Island in 1995. Her hobbies included cross-stitching, traveling and doing volunteer work at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was a member. Joann was a former president of the Southport Lions Club having served from 2000 to 2001.
She was preceded in death by one brother, one sister, and her first husband, Herman Charles Hinson Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Nicholas Conca of the home; three sons, Rodney Hinson and wife Debbie of Canton, Ga., Jeffrey Hinson of Oak Island, and Bradford Hinson of Shelby; one step-son, Christopher Conca of Leland; one step-daughter, Niki Conca of Dayton, Ohio; three grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; and three step-grandsons.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church
Officiated By: The Reverend Trent Watts
Burial: Sunset Cemetery, Shelby, at a later date.
