Joe Dan Spearman Sr.

HENDERSONVILLE-Joe Dan Spearman Sr., 77, of Hendersonville, died on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at the Elizabeth House.
He was born on July 9, 1935, in Cleveland County, to the late Charles Abraham Spearman Jr. and Willie Decatur Norman. He was also preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Mary Elizabeth Spearman who died in 1982.
Joe served 27 years on the Blue Ridge Community College Board, spending 16 years as chairman of the board, as well as serving 14 years on the Henderson County School Board. In April 1993, the Applied Technology building at Blue Ridge Community College was renamed and dedicated in Joe's honor and serves as a reminder of his contributions to the college as well as the entire community. In addition to his service to Blue Ridge Community College and the students of Henderson County, Joe served in the United States Air Force, and was the owner of Spearman Foods, Spearman Furniture, and Spearman Sawmill all of Hendersonville.
Joe is survived by his wife, Sylvia Spearman of Hendersonville; two children from his first marriage, his son, Joe Dan Spearman Jr. of Hendersonville, and daughter, Cynthia Spearman Spell and her husband Wayne of Salemburg; two step children, Robbie Stevens, and Jeffery Stevens and his wife Annette, all of Hendersonville; five grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Spell of Charlotte, Joe Dan Spearman III of Hendersonville, Richard Kreis Spell of Salemburg, Blake Julian Spearman of Hendersonville, and Matthew Wayne Spell of Salemburg; one step-granddaughter, Stacy Stevenson of Hendersonville; one brother, Dean Spearman; and one sister, Nancy Scisan, both of Kings Mountain.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mud Creek Baptist Church, 403 Rutledge Dr., Hendersonville.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Mud Creek Baptist Church
