SHELBY - John Lewis "Dad" Wray, 71, of 210 College Avenue, departed this life on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at White Oak Manor Nursing Center in Shelby. He was born on March 12, 1942, in Cleveland County, to Mrs. Ida Wilson Wray of Shelby and the late Coffard Wray.
John formerly worked at Spangler Concrete and Dedmon Concrete. He was a very outgoing person who never met a stranger and loved his family.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Farrah L. McCluney; a great-grandson, Ra'Jae McKissick; three sisters, Mae Charles Ross, Betty Jo Wray and Dorothy Lee Hall; and two brothers, Robert Wray and Randolph Wray.
Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Mrs. Ida Wray of Shelby; three sons, Kenny Wray, John Wray, Jr. and David McKissick (Phyllis), all of Shelby; three daughters, Beverly Wray, Lynn McKissick Williams (Robert) and Shenele McKissick, all of Shelby; four sisters, Beulah Cannon, Vinnie Johnson (James), Helen Banner and Merlean Carson (Jimmy) all of Shelby; two brothers, Willie Wray and Sherwood Wray, both of Shelby; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one uncle, David Jameson of Shelby; brother-in-law, Raymond Hall of Shelby; best friend, Glen Clemmons of Shelby; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church, and at other times at the home of his sister, Helen Banner, 210 College Avenue, Shelby.
Funeral service: 2 p.m. Friday at Eskridge Grove Baptist Church
