Lorene Walton

SHELBY - Lorene McDowell Walton, 79, of Shelby, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Wendover Hospice in Shelby. She was born on April 26, 1934, in Rutherford County, to the late Rev. Fred McDowell, Sr. and Frances Gentry McDowell Blanton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Walton; and her brothers, Fred McDowell, Jr., Miles Ray McDowell and Robert McDowell.
She is survived by one son, Lonnie "Jimbo" McDowell (Teressa) of Boiling Springs; three brothers, William McDowell, Sr. (Lizzie) and Bobby Joe McDowell (Penny), both of Shelby, and Willie L. McDowell (Donna) of Charlotte; three sisters, Johnnie Mae Guyton of Shelby, Inez Johnson (Don) of Charlotte and Ruth J. Parker (Rufus) of Grover; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two aunts, Myrtle Little of Kannapolis, and Lillie Mae Lawrence of Manassas, Va.; three sisters-in-law, Louise McDowell of Shelby, Michelle McDowell of Texas and Mattie McDowell of Harrisburg, Penn.;and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church, and at other times at the home of Ruth Parker 247 Roseborough Rd. Grover.
Funeral service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Light Oak Baptist Church, 2311 Oak Grove Rd., Shelby

Burial: Sunset Cemetery.
