Louise Newton

ELLENBORO - Louise Wray Newton, 93, of 305 Hopewell Road, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at home. She was born in Cleveland County on May 30, 1921, to the late Thomas Frank Wray and Rose Miller Wray.
She was a homemaker, a Red Cross Volunteer and volunteered for several area hospitals. She was a member of Hollis Masonic Eastern Star and Walls Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Paul Wray, Perry Wray, Parker Wray, Bob Wray, and Doc Wray; sisters, Pauline Powell, Jackie Beaver, and Faye Downs.
Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Lemmie Nixsanders Newton; sons Jim Newton and wife Bernice, Lemmie Newton Jr. and wife Sharon, all of Ellenboro, Wray Newton and wife Patty of Inman, S.C.; daughter Beatrice Conard of Shelby; four grandchildren, Tammy Connell, Gayle Alston, Rick Conard, and David Newton; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister, Mazel Wolf and husband Lester.
Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Funeral service: 5 p.m. Thursday at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel, Fallston.
Officiated by: The Rev. David Philbeck
Burial: Will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
