GROVER - Mark Edwin Byers, 53, died Monday, March 10, 2014, at Crowder's Mountain State Park. Born on Feb. 26, 1961, in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Edwin Gold and Mary Francis Bowen Byers.
Mark attended Elevation Church at Gaston Campus. Mark worked in the shipping department at Hanes Brand Inc. in Kings Mountain. Mark formerly taught Computer Science at Cleveland Community College and was also a former Huskins Teacher at Shelby High School. He was a member of Carolina Climbing Coalition and Crowder's climbing.
Mark was a loving and passionate man. He was a people person who enjoyed making others smile with his humor, and was dedicated to his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mark is preceded in death by a son, David Mark Byers; and a brother-in-law, William Smith.
Mark is survived by his wife, Roxanne Hicks; two daughters, Jessica Martin and husband John of Asheville, and Mary Frances Byers of the home; two sisters, Kerry Byers and husband Scott Greene of Blacksburg, S.C., and Althea Smith of Lincolnton; a brother, Thomas Byers and wife Lisa of St. Augustine, Fla.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Vickie and Joe Harrelson of Gastonia, Debbie and Fred Bell of Shelby, Cathy and Jeff Buchanan of Jefferson, S.C., and Patricia and Larry Holmes of Grover; numerous nieces and nephews; and his Rock Climbing family.
Visitation: The family will receive friends following the service.
