Mildred Thompson

SHELBY - Mildred Barbara Thompson, 86, of 507 Wardell Street, departed this life on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late John Baxter and Edna Love Thompson.
Ms. Thompson was a graduate of Cleveland High School, where she graduated valedictorian of her class. She was a lifelong member of Waddell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, where she served over the years as a Sunday school teacher, missionary member, usher, kitchen committee member and a member of the commodity distribution. She was employed with Cleveland Memorial Hospital currently Cleveland Regional Medical Center for 18 years In addition, she was a past P.T.A. president and member of the Salvation Army, Green Thumb Club and the Eastern Stars.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Rue Taylor Wood; and a brother, Dewitt Taylor.
Left to cherish fond memories of her are her children, Sheridan Thompson, Gemma Thompson, Antoinette Thompson and Christopher Thompson, all of Shelby; one sister, Eleanor Janie Thompson of Shelby; a niece who was like a sister, Elma Ann Wright of Shelby; four grandchildren, Glenn Thompson of Shelby, Melanie Thompson Hopper of Gastonia, Wesley Andre Thompson of Shelby, and Bryan Thompson of Kenosha, Wis.; nine great-grandchildren; her good friend, Clara "Sis" Borders of Shelby; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
Funeral service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Waddell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church
Officiated by: Pastor Lonnie Tucker
Burial: Will take place at Webb Memorial Lawns.
