KINGS MOUNTAIN - Monroe Degree, 93, of 314 Mary's Grove Church Road, departed this life for his eternal home on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at his residence. A native of Cleveland County, he was the youngest child of the late Doc and Nancy Strong Degree.
Mr. Degree was a United States Army
Veteran serving in World War II
. He was a retired employee of Dover Yarn Mill where he was employed for 35 years. Some of his pastimes included golfing, flower and vegetable gardening and watching sports, including baseball, and basketball with his favorite player being Tim Duncan.
Mr. Degree was married to the late Ruby Jean Hargrove Degree, and to their union six children were born.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Ida Marie Degree; seven brothers; and five sisters.
Left to cherish his memory are five sons, Pink Bell Degree of Shelby, John Monroe Degree (Patricia) of Kings Mountain, Robert Lewis Degree of Boiling Springs, Matthew Degree of the home and James Junior Degree of Shelby; a special cousin, Harvey Degree of Cherryville; nineteen grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church, and at other times at the home.
Funeral service: 3 p.m. Wednesday at Hopewell Baptist Church

Burial: Will take place at Webb Memorial Lawns.
