GAFFNEY, S.C. - Peggy Self Messer, 83, of 1637 W. Rutledge Ave., formerly of Asbury Road, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Boiling Springs, she was first married to the late Hord Cooper, was the widow of the late Melvin Messer, and was the daughter of the late Landrum Brooker Self and Mettie Ora Humphries Self. Mrs. Messer retired from textiles, loved sewing and was a member of Goucher Baptist Church.
Surviving is a son, Gary Cooper and wife Theresa of Pacolet; a daughter, Diane Parker and husband Tom Leuck of Gaffney; a brother, Bobby Self of Shelby; two grandchildren, Katie Burris and husband Spanky, and Jason Parker and wife Casey; and two great-grandchildren, Savannah Burris and Zoe Parker.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday at Blakely Funeral Home.
Funeral services will immediately follow at 4 p.m. in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Norman Gardner and Dr. Spanky Burris officiating.
Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
