Robert Steven "Steve" Blanton

ROCKVILLE, MD.-Robert Steven "Steve" Blanton, died on Feb. 3, 2013, at home in Rockville, Md., of cancer.
He was the cherished husband of Judy Blanton of nearly 50 years; loving father of Rick Blanton, Dana Foster (Tim), Fred Blanton (Janet), Roxanne Bailey (Chris), and Niki Branch (Jeremy); devoted grandfather of Christen Kaufman (Jeremy), Micah Foster (Amy), Jonathan Blanton, Rachel Blanton, Madison Branch, Taylor Bailey, Steven Bailey, Jackson Branch, and Julia Branch; proud great-grandfather to Kade Kaufman, Ariston Foster, and Karsten Kaufman; and the beloved brother of Joan Hudson (Harold), and the late Tom Blanton. He will be missed by many other relatives and friends.
Steve was born on March 4, 1939, in Shelby. He was a gifted athlete, an American Legion baseball standout, as well as a winning basketball player. He turned down college recruiting offers to dedicate his life to his family. He served in the U.S. Army, and while stationed in Germany, won awards for his marksmanship.
He began his life in Maryland with his wife, Judy, building Blanton Studios, a school photography business which he owned and operated from 1963 until his retirement in 1997. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, relaxing at the Outer Banks, and spending time with his family.
Visitation: The family will receive visitors at noon on Saturday at the funeral home in Rockville.
Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Saturday at Robert A. Pumphrey Funeral Home, 300 West Montgomery Avenue, Rockville, Md.
