Vellie & Thompson Jr.

SHELBY - Vellie Thompson, Jr. went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 27, 2014. A native of Cleveland County, he was born May 19, 1947, to the late Vellie Furman and Ida Gentry Thompson.
He was a dependable, loving and caring person. He always had good advice to give. He was a graduate of Green Bethel High School, Boiling Springs, and graduated from UNCC of Charlotte. He served in the Air Force. He traveled for many years as a truck driver for Decker Trucking Co. He was a great role model for his brother David. David credits him for his success in his basketball career.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Furman and Johnny Thompson; and three sisters, Sarah Rudasill, Margaret Ussery and Etta Mae Smith.
He is survived by four sisters, Irene Brown, Mary Thompson and Pecora Malachi of Shelby, and Joyce Lattimore of Boiling Springs; one brother, David Thompson (Cathy) of Charlotte; a special nephew, Dion Malachi; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. At other times the families will meet at 2610 Elizabeth Ave., Shelby.
Funeral service: 2 p.m. Sunday at Maple Springs Baptist Church
