Velma Nance

SHELBY - Velma McConnell Nance, 86, of 5 Lamar Street, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at Peak Resources in Shelby. She was born on March 16, 1927, in Cleveland County, to the late John Henry and Ollie Mae Graham McConnell.
Mrs. Nance was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess and a member of the Senior Missionary Board, Mass Choir and Burial Aid Society. She was retired from Ora Mill where she was employed for 20 years. Mrs. Nance enjoyed growing flowers. In addition, she loved to laugh, have fun and fellowship.
In 1947, she married her husband Eldred Nance and remained married until his death in 1979. To their union, seven children were born.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three daughters, Janice Nance Burris, Linda Nance Johnson and Lola Nance Chambers; one son, Dennis Eldred Nance; and a grandson, Melvin D. Barnett.
Left to cherish all the wonderful memories of her are two daughters, Sheila Nance of the home and Angela "Ann" Nance Allison of Shelby; a son, John Nance (Eleanor) of Greensboro; a sister, Lallage Carouthers of Shelby; a daughter, Lebra Nance of Charlotte; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.
Funeral service: 3 p.m. Sunday at Shoal Creek Baptist Church
Officiated by: Pastor Michael Isaac officiating
Burial: Will take place at the church cemetery.
Funeral home: Enloe Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
