KINGSTOWN - Verlie James Hopper, 67, of 2139 Kingstown Road, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby. He was the ninth child out of ten children and the youngest son of the late David and Dennie Hoyle Hopper.
Verlie was a graduate of Douglas High School in Lawndale and joined Ramseur Baptist Church at an early age. He was a fun-loving man who enjoyed life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Nathaniel Hopper, Benjamin Hopper, William Hopper, David Hopper, Ernest Hopper and Leonard Hopper.
Left to cherish fond memories of him are one brother, Jessie Hopper (Vernie) of Lawndale; two sisters, Dorothy Walls of Gastonia, and Edahlia Schenck (Donald) of Lawndale; a special sister-in-law, Emma Hopper of Shelby; his caregiver, Rose Marie Spikes Flack of Kingstown; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the chapel, and other times at the home of his sister, Edahlia Schenck, 165 Schenck Farm Rd. in Lawndale.
Funeral service: 1 p.m. Saturday at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel
Officiated by: The Rev. Frankie Smith, and Elder Derwin Walls delivering the eulogy
Burial: Will take place at Ramseur Baptist Church.
Funeral home: Enloe Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
