CHERRYVILLE - William Eugene Blanton, 88, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born in Cleveland County on Aug. 30, 1925, he was the son of the late Lawton and Carrie Moore Blanton.
Bill served in the Navy as well the Army during the World War II and the Korean War. He was the owner and respected jeweler of Blanton's Jewelry store in Shelby. Bill was a faithful member of Buffalo Baptist Church, where he formerly served as a deacon and sang in the choir. He loved watching sports and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean Blanton; a son, William Lawton Blanton; a brother, Marston B. Blanton; and three sisters, Genevieve B. Edwards, Geraldine B. Edwards and Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Grigg.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Georgann Morgan and husband Rick of Waco; a daughter-in-law, Miriam Blanton of Shelby; three grandchildren, Emily Hunnicutt Clary and husband Wesley, Anna Jean Blanton and fiancé Brandon Ducker, and Caleb William Blanton; four great-grandchildren, Abby, Macey, Lily Clary, and Jase Ducker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
Funeral service: 11 a.m. Friday at Buffalo Baptist Church
Officiated by: The Rev. Max Turner, Jr.
Burial: Will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park with military honors.
