BOONE- Reverend Dean Coffey, 75, of 210 Margot Road, Boone, went home to be with his Lord on Friday afternoon, May 17, 2013, at Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation in Boone.
Reverend Coffey was born Oct. 5, 1937, in Watauga County, a son of the late Wiley Earl Coffey Sr. and Edna Story Coffey.
He was a retired Baptist minister and served several churches in the area, including Laurel Fork Baptist Church, of which he was a member and sang in the choir. Dean also served in the Navy for two years, prior to going into the ministry, and retired from the Navy Reserves after 27 years of service. He was also an active member of the Masonic Snow Lodge in Boone.
Reverend Coffey is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Fairylee Davis Coffey of the home; one daughter, Lavena Dodd of Boone; two sons, Kevin Dean Coffey of Boone, and Michael Kenneth Coffey and wife Gina of Dacula, Ga.; three grandsons, Derrick Cook and wife Ashley of Cherryville, Dustin Cook and fiancee Janasee Gregg of Newton-Conover, and Logan Coffey of Dacula, Ga.; four granddaughters, Carla Coffey of Union Grove, Casey Trivette and husband Corey of Harmony, Alena Dodd of Boone, and Jasmine Coffey of Dacula, Ga.; five great-grandchildren, Alexis and Gavin Cook of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Hayley Cook of Cherryville, and Skyler and Kinley Trivette of Harmony; and one half-sister, Verdola Coffey of Granite Falls. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Nathen Coffey; and two brothers, Wiley Earl Coffey Jr., and Kenneth Asher Coffey.
Funeral Service: Was held on Monday, May 20, 2013.
