SHELBY - Bessie Janet Pass Brown, 69, of 308 Wilson Street, departed this life on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. She was born on Feb. 23, 1945, in Philadelphia, Penn.
Janet graduated from Allen High School in Asheville and furthered her education at Winston-Salem State University where she earned a degree in education in 1971. She later earned a Master's Degree from Appalachian State University. She was employed with the Cleveland County School system for 28 years as an Elementary School teacher.
Janet will be remembered for her outgoing, kind, loving and generous nature. She was small in stature but could be firm and feisty if she needed to be. In her spare time, she enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and playing cards.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore M. Pass, Sr. and Lois Briggs Pass,
She leaves to cherish fond memories of her, one son, Maurice Darby (Denise) of Shelby; one brother, Ted "Monty" Pass, Jr. (Donna) of Santa Monica, Calif.; one sister, Linda Fowler (John) of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Kierra Darby and Maurice Darby, Jr., both of Shelby; four nieces, Hillary Fowler, Leah Channer (Devon), Rachel Pass, and Ginger Pass; one nephew, Ian Fowler; five cousins, Charlene Scott of Lithonia, Ga., Cal Pass, Jr. (Mary) of Shelby, Emma Wiggins and Sally Little, both of Elizabeth, N.J., and George Williams of Roselle, N.J.; three close friends, Della Robb and Sherri Bass, both of Shelby, and Ella Watts of Bladensburg, Md.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday at Durham United Methodist Church
