Michael Parsons Obituary
SHELBY-Michael David Scott Parsons, age 17, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, at his home. Born in Richmond County, on Aug. 21, 1998, he is the son of David Carl and Lea Hunt Parsons of Shelby. Michael was a rising senior at Crest High School. Michael was taking welding classes and was part of the work study program at Crest. Michael played soccer for two years at the Greater Cleveland Soccer Association. Michael's goal was to design his own swords and to become a blacksmith. Michael is preceded in death by his grandfather, Edward Deese.
In addition to his parents, Michael is survived by three sisters, Crystal Cavazos of Fayetteville, Jessica Parsons of Oklahoma, and Rebecca Parsons of Shelby; a niece, Isabella Cavazos; Grandparents, Ronald and Carolyn Parsons of Chocowinity and Mary Ann Deese of Shelby; aunts and uncle, Robert Parsons and wife Monica of Maryland, and Jennifer Parsons of Arkansas; Cousins, Hannah Parsons, Lillie Parsons, Chris and Cyndi Sorrento, Brando Sorrento and Madison Sorrento.
The family will receive friends before the service from 12:30 until 2 p.m.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, at Poplar Springs Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Eric Davis.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Cleveland County Humane Society, 1609 E. Marion St., Shelby, NC 28150.

David and Lea, I am so sorry to hear about Michael. Although I never got to know him well, he seemed like such a sweet young man, and reminded me of you, David, when you were his age. I have been praying continually that God would comfort you as only He can, and I will continue to pray for you in the days and months to come. My love to all of you.

I taught Michael when he was a freshman at Crest. I am heartbroken to hear about his accident. He was such a sweet, polite, respectful, and hardworking student with loving and supportive parents. I am so very sorry for your loss. There are no words that I can offer that will ease any of the pain. Just know that, I too, suffered the loss of my daughter, Elizabeth, in May. Should you need someone to talk to, listen to you, scream at, or just be near, I'll do whatever I can to help you. This is an awful tragedy and Michael will be greatly missed.
