SHELBY- Robert Mike Lowery Jr., 63, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at the Kings Mountain Hospice House.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Carolyn Reinhardt Lowery and the late Robert Mike Lowery Sr. Along with his father, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Lowery Cavalier.
Graduating from Shelby High School in 1967, Mike attended Cleveland Community College where he received a degree in engineering, business administration, and police/criminal science. Mike worked for the City of Shelby as an engineer and retired after 30 years of service in the operations center. He served his country honorably as a Lance Corporal in the Marines during the Vietnam War from 1968–1970. He retired as a Sgt. Major with the Army National Guard after 30 years and was with the Shelby Police Reserves for 30 years.
Mike loved uniforms and considered it his honor to serve and was prideful of being able to wear them. He was also a member of the Cleveland Masonic Lodge #202 AF and AM where he served as past master. Mike was also a member of the Scottish Rites, member of the Oasis Temple in Charlotte, a member of the Piedmont Shrine Club, and on the beautification committee for the City of Shelby.
Mike was a member of Westview Baptist Church where he served as an usher. He enjoyed working in his yard and spending time completing tasks in his outside building. He treasured the times he was able to travel to numerous countries during his time in the service.
Mike is survived by his wife of 33 years, Vicki Hamrick Lowery; daughter, Amy Lowery Marlowe and husband Paul of Shelby; sisters, Debbie Lowery Gainey and husband Stan of Gastonia, and Cindy Lowery of Greenville, S.C.; grandchildren, Brandi Johnson and Steven Johnson of Michigan, Keely Bryant and Bryson Marlowe of Shelby; and many special nieces and nephews.
