He was born June 15, 1966, in Cleveland County, to Ada Powell and the late Milton Fullenwider.
Barry attended Burns High School where he participated in sports. He was formerly employed by Hickory Springs Mtg. Interstate Electric and most recently Home Healthy Market as a greeter. He was a loving son, brother, father, uncle, and friend who met no strangers. He was a member of Warehouse 242 Church in Charlotte.
In 1997, a brain aneurysm changed his life forever. We were told that he wouldn't walk, talk, or remember anything, but with the help of God, praying friends, and his family, he overcame the odds. We remember him most for calling to say, "Hey", "How are you doing?" and "Okay, I love you, gotta go." He could remember things even we forgot. He lived a rich life and through it all, he didn't give up. He fought a good fight, finished his course, and went home to his eternal rest.
He is survived by his parents, Ada Powell (Samuel) of Shelby; a daughter, La'Coya Fullenwider of Durham; two sons, Jevario Fullenwider of Hickory, and Byron Fullenwider of Vale; two sisters, Lisa Bostic of Lawndale, and Robbin Haynes (Wilbert) of Shelby; a special sister and brother, Narsisus Short of Winston-Salem, and John Smarr of Shelby; four nieces, Terry Fullenwider, Sha'Quala Bostic, Lakeisha Bostic, and Mahogany Smarr; two nephews, Trey Haynes, and Calvin Bostic; a great-niece and nephew, Amari and Jason Craig; his special mom, Kathy Stubbs; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and many, many, many friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, and at other times at the home of his mother, Ada Powell, 1336 Kings Circle in Shelby.
