SHELBY - Bernita "Stunnie" Sutton Wilson, 52, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Peak Resources in Shelby. She was born on March 11, 1961, in Cleveland County to the late Joseph and Bernice Davenport Sutton.
"Stunnie," as she was known by many, was a 1979 graduate of Shelby High School, where she played basketball. She was formerly employed with Fasco Industries, where she worked for ten years.
She was a member of Jesus Way Mission Church where she joined in 1994 after rededicating her life to the Lord. She served on the Pastor's Aide Committee. Her strong will and faith in the Lord were evident after being diagnosed with M.S. in 1996. Her doctors credited her determination to live and her refusal to give up for enabling her to live as long as she did with it.
"Stunnie will be remembered as a friendly person who was always smiling. She enjoyed cooking when she was able and was an avid North Carolina Tar Heels fan and die-hard Shelby High School fan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Brian Jerome Sutton; and her father and mother-in-law, Robert Lewis and Betty Lou Wilson.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, Tony Wilson of Kings Mountain; a son, Jamarcus Marquis Sutton of Shelby; one grandson, Jamarcus Marquis Sutton, Jr.; two sisters, Sylvia Fowler (Billy) of Shelby; and Rev. Selma Pompey (Rev. Verlon) of Cramerton; two brothers, Donald Davenport of Gastonia and Ronald Davenport of Shelby; her maternal grandmother, Connie Mae Surratt of Shelby; four nieces, Shamika Black of Greensboro, Dejandria Boulware of Athens, Ga., Demetria Nicole Pompey of Gastonia and Tanisha Jeter of Winston-Salem; four nephews, Jarrick Homesley of Shelby, Michael Davenport (Camille) of Winston-Salem, and Donnie Davenport (Tywanna) and Tony Michael Hyde, both of Shelby; two aunts, Wanda Taylor (Tyrone) and Sheila Ann Degree, both of Shelby; two brothers-in-law, Robert H. Wilson of Kings Mountain and Joey Wilson of Shelby; one sister-in-law, Freda Wilson of Shelby; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, and other times at the home of her sister, Sylvia Fowler, 1105 Fallston Road, Shelby.
