COLUMBIA, S.C.-Esther Nell Knuckles Glymph Witherspoon, 98, of 1825 Saint Julian Place 3-H, Columbia, widow of Mr. Clarence Lawrence "J. C." Glymph Jr. and Reverend Dr. J. W. Witherspoon, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, April 13, 2013, at her residence.

Mrs. Witherspoon was born in Gaffney, to the late Asa Knuckles and the late Beatrice Shippy Knuckles. Seven brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
She was an active member of I.D. Newman U.M.C. of Columbia, a former member of Dunton U.M.C., and participated in numerous civic and professional activities.
Since the local high school was not accredited, she completed high school in Shelby and her first teaching assignment was in Cleveland County. She also graduated from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, and Western Reserve University of Cleveland, Ohio.
She is survived by seven nephews, three nieces, three great-nephews, three great-nieces, a step-granddaughter, and other relatives.
Visitation: The family will receive friends in Columbia at her residence, and in Gaffney at the home of her nephew and niece, Dr. Harold and Ms. Blanch Talley, at 504 East Frederick Street.
Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Thursday at Francis Burns U.M.C. in Columbia, with viewing from 1 to 2 p.m.
