SHELBY - Ethan Quinn Martin, 13, of Cider Drive, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at his home.

Born in Gaston County on Jan. 2, 2000, he was the son of Bradley and Nicole Utera Martin.
Ethan was an eighth grader at Shelby Middle School and he played the trumpet in the band. He loved swimming, playing video games and being with his friends and family. Ethan was brave and courageous throughout his illness and always had a smile on his face. His positive attitude was an inspiration to so many people, and he was grateful for the outpouring of love that he received.
Ethan is preceded in death by his grandfather, Bud Utera.
In addition to his parents, Ethan is survived by a brother and two sisters, Connor, Heather and Hannah, all of the home; grandparents, Phyllis Utera of Wilmington, and Johnny and Juanita Martin of York, S.C.; aunt and uncle, Marc and Kristen Utera of Plymouth, Mass.; and cousins, Teigen and Morgan Utera.
Visitation: The family will receive friends following the service.
Funeral Service: 6 p.m. Tuesday at Christopher Road Baptist Church
Officiated By: The Rev. Chris Wray
Burial: A private burial will be held later at Cleveland Memorial Park.
