SHELBY - Evelyn Rose "L. Bootzie" Jones, 74, of 1401 Newton Street, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 21, 2014, at Wendover Hospice in Shelby. She was born on June 10, 1939, in Rutherford County.
Jones graduated from Green Bethel High School in Boiling Springs in 1958 and then advanced to Crosby's Beauty School in Gastonia. She then continued working at J.P. Stevens, Union Carbide, White Oak Manor and retired from Kemet Electronics. In addition to these occupations, she worked for the Izzi family.
Ms. Jones was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where she worshipped for many years. She was a committed mother, sister, aunt and friend, and took extreme pride in being a grandmother. She enjoyed reading, watching soap operas and providing support and advice to anyone who needed it.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Lou Lee Poston and James Poston, Sr.; her biological father, Lewis Whiteside; a brother, Harold Poston; two nephews, Brian Poston and Jacques Poston; her aunts, Rosa Lee Peeler, Dorothy Poston; and a niece, Bunnie Tate.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Cassandra "Susie" Jones Sanders of Shelby; two brothers, James Poston, Jr. (Marie) of Shelby and Charles Poston (Beverly) of Detroit, Mich.; two cousins who were raised as brothers, Roberts Jones (Marie) of Forest City and Guynell Jones of Shelby; five sisters, Brenda Watkins (Edward) and Bernice Laborn (Eugene), both of Shelby, and Hazel Tate, Veinita Owens and Helen Whiteside, all of Rutherfordton County; two grandchildren, Christiana Taylor and Jayden Sanders, both of the home; children she helped rear, Grace Briscoe, Walter Jones, Angela Jones, Connie Lott, Rhonda Wilson-Byers, Shawn Davis, Christopher Tate, Darrell Jones, Joe Spikes, Milton "Tius" Briscoe and Alisa Smith; a special cousin who shared her birthday, Mary Spikes; special friends, Marilyn Smith and Ann Brooks; several children who were like family, Faith Webber, Jasmine Russell, Brittney Hooker, Calvin Card and Malik Wilson Gaston; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church and at other times at the home.
Funeral service: 2:30 p.m. Friday at Shiloh Baptist Church

Burial: Will take place at Sunset Cemetery
