SHELBY - Frances "Fran" Danielle Fili McSwain went home to Jesus on June 9, 2013.

Born July 10, 1947, she was the third child of the late Francis "Frank" Fili and Florrie Fili. Raised in Charleston, SC with her four siblings, she graduated from St. Andrews Parish High School in Charleston, SC, The College of Charleston, and received her Master's Degree from The Citadel. Her lifelong love of learning and teaching lead her to teach in public schools in South and North Carolina before becoming an Early Intervention Service Coordinator for the State of NC with the Shelby Children's Developmental Services Agency (CDSA). She also taught courses at Cleveland Community College. Her greatest gift to all her students and their parents was her unwavering belief in their own strength and abilities. She al-ways saw the best in everyone and was dedicated to seeing every person the way Jesus sees them – as a perfect creation. Her love and relationship with our Lord gave her, and everyone around her, strength her entire life. Her devotion to serving others was evident in her joy in supporting the missions in Guatemala with the Monte Los Olivos Church in Guatemala and the Partnership for the Presbytery of Suchitepéquez. She was plan-ning on returning to Guatemala on their next trip, and it was with great regret she had to cancel her trip when she learned she was ill. To say she was involved in her Church and community is an understatement; she was a force of nature at Shelby Presbyterian Church, and loved her time serving with Habitat for Humanity of Cleveland County, the Shelby Presbyterian Soup Kitchen, and many other groups. Her greatest joy, though, came from working with the Church in Children's Ministry. "Her" babies and children were very close to her heart, and she loved their visits, cards and posters while she was ill.

She is survived by her husband, Hartsel McSwain, of the home; a daughter, Danielle McSwain, of Columbia, SC; and a son, Walter McSwain III, of Charlotte, NC; her sisters and brother, Betty (Jim) Miles, of Westminster, SC; Sharon (Joel) Rexford, of Westminster, SC; John Fili, of Charleston, SC; Ria (Bill) York, of Kennesaw, GA; and brother-in-law Jerry (Beverly) McSwain of Emory, TX. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and their children, that are dear to her heart, as well as many cousin. She is also survived by her Uncle Harold and Aunt Cecile Schofil of Fort Valley, GA, and her Uncle George and Aunt Ruthie Coe of Baltimore, MD. Fran McSwain will be missed by many, but we know she has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior, and she is at rest and peace.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Shelby Presbyterian Church with Dr. Luke Harkey officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.

The family would like to thank everyone in this wonderful community that has come to visit in the past few weeks. Your visits, cards, and prayers gave us all strength and made her last weeks beautiful. Also, the family would like to specially thank the caring and amazing staff of Hos-pice of Cleveland County Wendover House, and the staff at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shelby Presbyterian Church Missions Programs or Children's Programs, PO Box 1444, Shelby, NC 28151, and to Cleveland County Hospice, 951 Wendover Height Drive, Shelby, NC, 28150. The family would also like to ask that on July 10, everyone has a banana split in honor of Fran's birth-day.
