SHELBY- Mr. Harold Mauney, 77, of 1113 Buffalo St., Shelby departed this life on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.
He was born on April 23, 1935, in Cleveland County, NC to the late Lark and Lucille Williamson Mauney.
Harold was a graduate of Douglas High School in Lawndale where he was known as a standout basketball player. During his childhood, he joined Philadelphia United Methodist Church where he remained a member of. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country for two years.
Harold enjoyed fishing and also enjoyed helping his fellow seniors by driving them places they needed to go.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, John Griffin.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline Mauney of Shelby; one son, Dr. Michael Mauney of Bowie MD; a daughter, Sheila McCain (Ronald) of Kings Mountain, NC; two sisters, Marilyn Griffin of Shelby and Betty Hill (Alvin) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Nicki Mauney of Gastonia, Jasmine Burch of Kings Mountain, and Caleb Mauney and Donavan both of Bowie, MD; adopted granddaughter, Alexis Kirkland of Shelby; three nieces, Deborah Latta and Sherita Hill both of Charlotte and Cheryl Griffin of Shelby; one nephew, Darrell Hill of Seattle WA; one aunt, Ruth Hoyle of Hickory, NC; his granddog, Princess; two special friends, Ms. Emma Parks and Mr. Eaves and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the church and at other times at the home of Pauline Mauney, 111 Camden Court in Shelby.
Funeral Service: Monday, March 4, 2013, at 2 p.m. Philadelphia United Methodist Church

Burial: Burial will take place at the church cemetery
