CHERAW, S.C. -Jean Margaret Riley 60, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at her residence.

She was born Nov. 14, 1951, in Amityville, N.Y., to Sybil McCarter and Howard Riley. Jean was a graduate of Western Carolina University, class of 1973, with a B.S.W. in social work. She did her internship at Black Mountain VA Hospital. She was a social worker at the Huntersville Hospital until the 1980s for over 10 years. She was a social worker at various nursing homes in the Charlotte area, including the Pines in Davidson. In 1992, she began working for Cleveland County Health Department with the Baby Love program to help expectant mothers. Then she transferred to the communicable diseases area in which she helped patients with AIDS. Jean also worked in her free time to help patients who needed extra help. She retired from Cleveland County Health Department in 2009 and continued to care for her mother who died in Dec. 2010.
She is survived by her sister, Patricia Riley Eskridge and husband William of Cheraw, S.C.; a nephew, Tim Eskridge; and grandnephews, Bredan Eskridge, Landen Eskridge and Jade Eskridge.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents listed above.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at the graveside just before and after the service.
Graveside Service: 1 p.m. Friday in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, S.C.
