SHELBY-Ms. Ann Janell "Jeanette" Hartgrove, 57, of Shelby, departed this earthly life on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.

She was born on June 24, 1955, in Cleveland County to the late Willie Hartgrove and James Haywood Smith.
Jeanette, as she was widely known, relocated from Shelby to N.Y. in 1968 and graduated from Roslyn High School in Roslyn, N.Y. in 1974. She was a member of Greater Liberty Temple of Deliverance in Shelby where she enjoyed singing in the choir until her health declined. Jeanette was a very likable, humorous and sensitive person who enjoyed being fashionable.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William Ivery Hartgrove and Wilbert Lewis Hartgrove; and a sister, Diane Hartgrove.
Left to cherish loving memories are three brothers, Ivery Lee Hartgrove of Shelby, James Smith of Southhill, Va., and Jerry Smith (Joanie) of Shelby; five sisters, Hattie "Gail" Hartgrove of Hempstead, N.Y., Dianne Hartgrove, Geraldine Clark (Wendell) and Ottie Smith, all of Shelby, Catherine Smith of Fort Washington, Md., and Ruth Harris (Charles) of Whitsett; special friend, Brenda Carpenter of Shelby; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Peak Resources of Shelby, the I.C.U. and P.C.U. Departments of Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Dr. Hobson and Shelby Surgical and Dialysis Clinic, Inc., for all of the care provided.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. on Friday at the chapel, and at other times at the home of her niece, Melissa Hartgrove Spearman, 584 Winter Park Drive, Shelby.
Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Friday at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel
