GAFFNEY, S.C -The world lost a good man with the passing of Jimmy Hoopaugh on Nov. 6, 2010 at 5:40 PM.
Jim died as a result of serving his country in Vietnam, where he developed non-Hodgkin Lymphoma after being assigned to the area sprayed with Agent Orange. He was actively under a doctor's care for more than 10 years.
Jim leaves behind his wife and soul-mate, Trish Hoopaugh.
He was the son of the late Emmette Gibbs Hoopaugh and Mamie Roberts Hoopaugh Smith and husband, Morris of Crouse, N.C.
Remembering Jim as loving father and mentor, are three step-sons, Marc Simmons and Eric Simmons of Charleston and Tracy Simmons of Myrtle, Miss.; his "heart grandchildren" are Casey Spencer, Dillon Spencer, Steven Bolin, Joseph Humphries, Alex Humphries and Steven Manning; five sisters, Judy Petrovsky of Atlanta, Ga., Patricia Moss of Cherryville, N.C., Brenda Trot-sensky, Joyce Woodard and Jeanette Champion, all of Shelby, N.C.; a son, Chris Hoopaugh of Shelby, N.C.; and three grandchil-dren, Jenna Simmons, Tyler Hoopaugh and Payton Hoopaugh.
Mr. Hoopaugh was a well known meticulous and master brick and rock mason. Some of his work can be seen at Gaffney Elks Lodge and Shelby Fish Camp.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Joe Stephenson and colleagues of the Cancer Center of the Carolinas and to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Also a special thanks to close family friends, Donna Strong and Shannon Spencer, who were immediately on their doorstep when they heard a tear in their voice. Also to Kenneth and Sue McDaniel and many who have prayed for him.

Funeral: Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2 p.m.,Berry Memorial Baptist Church
Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Officiated by: Brother-in-laws, Dr. S.M. Davis, The Rev. Welton Davis and Mr. Ron Rumbaugh
Burial: Will follow in Berry-Davis Cemetery with military honors.
