BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mr. Marvin Childers, 69, of 392 Martin Hills Road, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Peggy Brittain Childers for 47 years and the son of the late James Coleman Childers and Lillie Martin Childers. He retired after 30 years of employment from The Timken Company. He served proudly in the Marine Corps from 1958 until 1962. Mr. Childers was a member of Temple Baptist Church and served as a deacon, music director and Sunday school teacher previously at other churches. Marvin was a devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather and friend who never met a stranger. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and gardening.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Markus L. Childers of Blacksburg and Christopher L. Childers and wife, Kimberly, of Gaffney; a daughter, Jacquelyn D. Childers of Gaffney; four brothers, James Zanie Childers and wife, Peggy, of Gaffney, Larry Childers and wife, Kathy, of Mayo, Howard Childers and wife, Pearl, of York and Terry Childers and wife, Gwen, of Kings Mountain, N.C.; a sister, Hazel Allen and husband, Dale, of Gaffney; and seven grandchildren, Briana Phillips and husband, Matthew, Katlyn Childers, Nevin Childers, Makayla Childers, Dustin Childers, Crislyn Childers and Matthew Mulli-nax.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Childers was preceded in death by a brother, Otis Childers.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Wednesday, Dec. 23, 6 to 8 p.m., at Blakely Funeral Home.
Funeral: Thursday, Dec. 24, 11 a.m., Temple Baptist Church
