WILMINGTON-Patricia Loyd Drinard Gettys died of recent illness on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

Patricia was born in Richmond, Va., on Dec. 6, 1935, to Lawrence Burgess Drinard of Richmond, Va., and Juanita Loyd Hatch of Danville, Va.
In 1972, Patricia married Carl Alexander Gettys of Shelby. They made their home in Durham, where Carl passed away in 1990.
Patricia's stepbrother, Frederick Parker Hatch Jr. of Wilmington, died in 2003.
Surviving loved ones are: Elsie Corbett Hatch, Frederick Hatch III (Helen), Grant Hatch (Tina), Stephen Hatch (Sherry), Mark Hatch (Rhonda), Bert Hatch (Kimberly), and their children.
Patricia (Pattie) attended local schools in Durham, graduating from Durham High School. She attended Stratford College in Danville, Va., graduating in 1955. Pattie enjoyed a career as a secretary for Dr. J. L. Goldner at Duke Hospital, receiving a commendation from the University President for 40 years of service to the institution. Collecting Limoges boxes, wooden nutcrackers, and N.C. pottery were some of her interests and she enjoyed telling where each came from. Apart from her family, Pattie's greatest love was for the UNC Tarheels, especially Dean Smith and Carolina basketball.
Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church Chapel, Market Street, Wilmington
Memorials: The family requests that memorials to Patricia be placed to one's favorite charity in her name.
