SHELBY - Mrs. Wanda McCarter Arledge, 89, of 818 Parkwood Road, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by family and entered into eternal life to be with her husband, Harold, and grandson Eric.
She died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at Sunrise of South Charlotte.
Born in Pond Creek, Okla., Wanda graduated from Pond Creek High School and Hills Business College in Oklahoma City, Okla. She retired from Sears Roebuck & Co. Wanda was a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church and very active in her church. She volunteered for many causes. She was a very wonderful, loving mother, and enjoyed spending time with her family. She had a love of nature and particularly butterflies. She was very compassionate and kind and loved unconditionally.
Her husband, Harold Franklin Arledge Sr.; her parents, Charles Milton McCarter and Kate Smalley McCarter; brother, Louis McCarter; sisters, Maxine Garrison, Elizabeth Wilkins, Vernice Mattson and Vivian Coppage; and grandson, Eric Arledge.
She is survived by sons, Harold F. Arledge Jr. and wife, Sherry, of Brunswick, Ga., and David C. Arledge and wife, Faye, of Hendersonville; daughter, Susan A. Bridges and husband, Frank, of Weddington; grandchildren, Aaron Arledge and wife, Anglia, Isaac Arledge and wife, Lauren, Nathan Arledge, Zack Bridges and fiancée Jennie Creasser, Katherine Bridges and Stacy Arledge; great-grandchildren, Avery, Samantha, and Amelia; special niece, Jancie Aubert and husband, Ray; nephew, Charles Garrison; and cousin, Al Mattson and wife, Carol.
Funeral: Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 3 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory
Visitation: The family will receive friends Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home.
Burial: Sunset Cemetery
