SHELBY - William "Bill" Edward Carpenter, age 75, died Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Hospice Wendover. He was born in Cleveland County on March 10, 1943, the son of the late Howard Vincent Carpenter Sr. and Rachael Thomas Carpenter. Bill was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He attended the University of Georgia and was very proud of his Bulldog heritage. Bill enjoyed hunting deer, turkey and especially his trips to Colorado to hunt Elk. He had a love for the water and his home on the lake. He loved motorcycles, jeeps and boats as well as traveling with his wife, Sonja and camping.

In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by one brother, Vincent Carpenter Jr. and one sister, Linda Carpenter Triplett.

Bill is survived by his wife of 20 years, Sonja Tobler Carpenter of Shelby, one daughter Jill Bradshaw and husband Glenn of Union Mills, one son, Brad Carpenter and girlfriend Ashley Willis of Shelby, three step-daughters; Wesley Hendrick and husband Josh of Shelby, Carolyn Baals and husband Jeff of Marlton, NJ and Jordan Fleming and husband Joel of Raleigh, one sister Frankie Hicks of Kings Mountain and one brother John Thomas Carpenter of Lawndale , three grandchildren Joseph Bradshaw, Eddie Shomate and wife Anna, Carter Hendrick, and four great-grandchildren as well as his beloved canine companion Oliver.

Memorial service will be held 2pm Monday, August 13, 2018 at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Fawn Mikel and Rev. Jamie Mosteller officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
