JEFFERSON-Mrs. Alice Wilma Jean Black Smith Miller, 77, of Jefferson, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Ashe Assisted Living in West Jefferson.

Mrs. Miller was born Feb. 1, 1935, in Ashe County to Noah Marlin and Ethel Severt Black. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her parents and eight sisters.
She was a member of West Jefferson Church of Christ. Mrs. Miller loved working as a foster grandparent at Blue Ridge and Westwood Elementary Schools. She enjoyed scrap booking and spending time with her family. She was also a bird lover.
Mrs. Miller is survived by two sons, Ricky Smith and wife Debbie of Hickory, and Randy Smith and wife Susan of Seneca, S.C.; two daughters, Kim Goodman and husband Jim of West Jefferson, and Karen Dunkleman and husband Al of Boiling Springs; two sisters, Mamie Eller of Laurel Springs and Virginia Sears of Jefferson; nine grandchildren, Daniel, Benjamin "B. J." and wife Katie, Jessica, Jarrett, Matthew and wife Lindsay, Ellen, Joseph, Katie, and Ethan; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: The family received friends prior to the service.
Funeral Service: Was held Sunday, Jan. 20, at Badger Funeral Home Chapel

Burial: Mash Severt Cemetery, following the service
