SHELBY- Robert Lee McConnell, Jr., 74, of 419 Carolina Ave., departed this life on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Robert Lee McConnell, Sr. and the late Ruth Jones McConnell.
Robert graduated from Cleveland High School and served in the U.S. Army working with the medics in the 9th Infantry Division. After the service, he resided in Washington, DC and several other cities before relocating back to Shelby in 1985. He was employed with Cleveland Lumber Co. and Eagle Roller Mill until his health declined.
Robert loved the computer and reading, especially the Bible. In addition, he enjoyed collecting things which included books and baseball cards.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James "Head" McConnell; a sister, Thelma Littlejohn and a great-grandchild, Adayo Jones.
Left to cherish his memory are four children, Robert Lee "Chip" McConnell of Shelby, Lindy Anthony McConnell (Dawn) of Kings Mountain, NC, Shawn Ager (Orlando) of Charlotte, NC and Ernest Lee Camp (Lisa) of Kings Mountain; twelve grandchildren, Sherica Ager, Shimica Ager, Orlando Ager Jr., Christine Downs (Tyree), Chiquita Lockett, Tamara Ross, Ashley Ager, Austin Ager, Atalie Ager, Deshawn McConnell, Landan Camp and Kiara Camp; eighteen great-grandchildren; a niece, Becky Barron (Earl) of MD; two nephews, Frederick Littlejohn (Latonya) of Shelby and Gerald Littlejohn (April) of Fayetteville; a special cousin who was like a sister, Diane Norris of Fallston, and a host of other relatives and friends.Visitation: The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.
Funeral Service: Saturday, 1 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church
