SHELBY - Arthur Joseph Hollis, 86, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Kings Mountain Hospice House. Born in Essex County, Mass., he was the son of the late Arthur and Irene Mable Hayes Hollis.
Mr. Hollis served his country honorably in both the Army and Navy during the Korean War. He was a graduate of North Eastern University with an Electro-Mechanical Engineering degree. He retired from GTE Sylvania of 31 years. He also worked in Fasco Controls in Shelby. He was a member of St. Mary Help of Christians Parish.
Mr. Hollis is survived by his wife, S. Lee Hollis; mother-in-law, Evelyn Bishop of Shelby; sister, Arlene Oshea of Salem, Mass.; sons, Michael Hollis and wife Carrie and their daughter Athen of Steep Falls, Maine, and David Hollis and wife Sofia and their sons Maurico and Diago Hollis of Mexico City, Mexico; step-daughter, Kimberly Fusco and husband Richard and their children, Allison and Jennifer Fuso of Merrimack, N.H.; step-son, Peter Herring and wife Tracey and their children Brittini of Gorham, Maine, and Joseph of Hiram, Maine.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.
A burial will be private at a later date.
