SHELBY - Samuel Alexander Jenkins, Jr., 59, of 303 Old Mill Road, died Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby. Born Nov. 1, 1954, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Samuel Alexander Jenkins, Sr., and Mary Louise Bridges Jenkins.
He was a machinist for Baldor in Kings Mountain and was a member of Mull's Memorial Baptist Church. Sam was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and was known by his grandchildren as "Poppy." He enjoyed NASCAR, loved spending time at the beach with his family and was an excellent carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Jan Lankford Jenkins; two daughters, Miranda Bridges and husband Jacob of Shelby and Dena Jenkins of Mooresboro; two step-daughters, Jodie Brackett and husband Fuller of Casar and Katina Lankford of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Elijah Lankford, Zoie Lankford, Calee Jolley, and Carter and Laney Bridges; and two sisters, Cornelia Sweezy of Shelby and Amanda Jolley of Lyman, S.C.
Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral service: 2 p.m. Saturday at Mull's Memorial Baptist Church

Burial: Will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park
