SHELBY - Grace Marie Parker Williams, 82, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Hospice Wendover. Born in Burke County on Nov. 14, 1931, she was the daughter of the late B. H. and Faye Hasting Parker Crowe.
She was an active member at Sandy Plains Baptist Church. She enjoyed working with the GA's, singing in the choir, and being known around the church as the "cake lady" for the annual BBQ. Grace was a graduate from Cleveland Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She practiced nursing her entire working career in doctors' offices, hospitals, and nursing homes. She was known as one of the best. She was active in Eastern Star, Shelby Chapter #110, as a Past Worthy Matron, and an active member of the American Business Women's Association. She loved to travel locally and abroad. She loved painting canvases and her Santa Claus collection. She taught knitting and crocheting classes.
In addition to her parents, Grace is preceded in death by her sons, Joel Dean Williams, Alvin Ronald Williams, and Brady Donald Williams; a sister, Prue Parker Yelton and husband J.E.; and a brother, Luther Stephen Parker.
Grace is survived by her husband of 66 years, William "Billy" Williams; a daughter, Debbie Wall and husband Frank of Shelby; granddaughter, Holly Poynter and husband Matt of Shelby; grandson, Gabe Wall and wife Debbie of Midlothian, Va.; a sister, Louise Whitaker of Anderson, S.C.; sister-in-law, Carolyn Parker of Lincolnton; five great-grandchildren, Aiden, Dylan, Reagan, Rylin, and Cameron; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
Celebration of life service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Sandy Plains Baptist Church
Officiated by: The Rev. Garin Hill and Dr. Don McSwain
Burial: Will follow in the church cemetery.
