LAWNDALE - Karen Louise Smith (Jennie), 48, of Raleigh, NC departed this life Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Wake Medical Center after a long illness.

She was born June 15, 1966, to Fannie Bell Mauney. She was a faithful member of Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church for twenty four years, baptized by the Late Elder James L. Benton.
Karen graduated from Burns High School in 1984. She was in the Band, Beta Club, Junior Marshall, Keywanettes, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Homecoming Sponsor, Student Council Vice President and President, President of Sophomore, Junior and Senior Council.
She played Softball and Basketball on the school team. She was voted Most Popular, most talkative and Wittiest in her class. Karen went on to graduate from North Carolina State in Raleigh in 1989 with a degree in chemistry. She was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Karen worked at Naska, White Hall and Roblum, AAI and Quintiles Pharmaceuticals. Karin was a co-founder of the Pounds Family Reunion.
She leaves to cherish fond memories her mother, Fannie Bell Mauney, two sisters; Sandra Petty of Fla. and Linda Johnson of Hickory, NC, Her Grandmother Rosa Petty of Fla., two Uncles; Alfred Littman and Willie Smith, one Aunt; Frances Brice of Lawndale and very dear friends; Gail Jackson, Jan Morrow, Tewanda Outlaw, Freida King, Linda Anderson, Druel Outtey, Johnnie Ruth Simmons, Diane Bradley, Mandy Hollifield, Trisha Brewer and many cousins, friends and coworkers
Visitation: Monday, July 7, 2014, at 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church
Funeral Service: Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at 1 p.m.
