LAWNDALE - Johnnie Dover, 63, of 106 Peter Key Road, departed this life on Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Wendover Hospice in Shelby. He was born on Feb. 16, 1951, in Cliffside, to the late Thomas Hamrick and Pauline Dover.
Johnnie attended Chase High School. After high school, he began working at Cone Mills; from there he went to work at Doran Mills. He was employed with Quality Frames in Bellwood before his health failed him. At that time, he went into early retirement. Johnnie was well known in the community and loved by his family and his friends. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, socializing with his friends, going site-seeing with his wife and was known for his funny jokes.
He was a member of Haynes Grove Baptist Church in Cliffside.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roderick Dover; a sister, Nancy Johnson; father-in-law, James F. Williams, Sr.; and a brother-in-law, Lewis C. Williams.
He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 32 years, Joeann Williams Dover; two children, Shannon Dover and Demetrius Byers, both of Shelby; three step-children, Martha Williams, Ryan Williams and Anthony Williams (Debbie), all of Shelby; one sister, Jeanette Harris (William) of Shelby; one brother, Marshall Dover (Maryland) of Gaffney, S.C.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and ten step-great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Lizzie W. Williams of Lawndale; two aunts, Martha Hampton of Cliffside and Mary Phillips of Alexandria, Va.; brothers-in-law, Peter Williams (Sherry) of Shelby, Jeff Williams (Natalie) of Concord, Tommy L. Williams of Lawndale, Reverend James Williams, Jr. (Dorothy) of Shelby, and Elder Michael Williams (Saronda) of Lawndale; a sister-in-law, Pauline W. Williams of Shelby; and host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation: The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service, and at other times at the home.
Funeral service: 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Pine Grove Baptist Church, Lawndale
Officiated by: The Rev. James Williams, Jr.
Burial: Will take place at the church cemetery.
Funeral home: Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Enloe Mortuary.
