SHELBY - Lucille Simon Sloan, 90, formerly of 3125 Old School Road, departed this life on July 26, 2014, at Peak Recourses in Shelby.

She was born on August 19, 1923 in Athens, Ga., to the late John and Minnie Merritt Simon.
Mrs. Sloan relocated to Cleveland County at an early age. She married the late Hubert Isaiah Sloan and together they reared 7 children together. They remained married until his death in 1988.
Mrs. Sloan was of the Pentecostal faith and attended several churches throughout the county. She always enjoyed talking about the Lord and reading her Bible. She was also a member of the Elizabeth Chapter # 3 Order of the Eastern Stars.
Mrs. Sloan loved her family and loved spending time encouraging her friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Murray and Bessie Lee Rose; three brothers, Ernest Simon, John Simon Jr. and Grady Simon; a daughter-in-law, Linda Sloan and a son-in-law, John B. Dawkins.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Leroy C. Sloan of Belmont, Yvonne Dawkins of Gaffney, S.C., Lorene Stevenson (Hasker) and Minnie Howell (Jerome) both of Shelby, Will Sloan of Portland, Oregon and Namon Sloan and Edward Sloan both of Shelby; one sister, Louvenia Haynes of Shelby; 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Sue Sloan of Shelby, Katherine "Dee Dee" Bradford of Detroit, Mich., and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Ramseur Baptist Church with Pastor Melvin L. Clark officiating and Pastor Billy Ramseur delivering the eulogy.
Burial will take at Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2 p.m. at the church and at other times at 3125 Old School Road in Shelby.
