SHELBY - Tom Philbeck, 86, a residence of White Oak Manor, passed away Aug. 16, 2014, at White Oak.

A native of Cleveland County, he was better known as "The Egg Man" to the county residents.

He was a charter member of New Buffalo Baptist Church in Grover.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Carroll Philbeck; two sisters and six brothers.

He is survived by wife of 67 years, Ruth Hurdt Philbeck; five sons, Tom Philbeck, Jr. and wife Adriana of Charleston, SC, Steve Philbeck and wife Sherry of Meridian, MS, Rev. David Philbeck and wife Brenda of Bostic, Terry Philbeck and wife Susa of Tampa, FL, Doug Philbeck and wife Jeannie of Summerville, SC; one sister, Ruby Judd of Blacksburg, SC; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

He was born Jan. 8, 1928, son of the late Ephraim Mayberry and Lona Humphries Philbeck.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Buffalo Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Adam Green and her son, the Rev. David Philbeck.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

Burial will immediately be in the church cemetery.
