SHELBY - Mr. Leon Thurman Jr., 21, of 935-A Kings Road, departed this life on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.
He was born Aug. 15, 1988, in Cleveland County, to Amma Jean McShaw and Leon "Fella" Thurman Sr. Leon was a mem-ber of Walls Memorial Church. He enjoyed basketball, dancing and making people laugh.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Pearl McShaw and Amburs Hopper Sr.; paternal grandparents, Jessie Ponder and Harvey Thurman; and one nephew, Tyrell Murray.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Amma Jean McShaw; his father, Leon "Fella" Thurman Sr.; two daughters, AKayla and Diamond Thurman; sisters, Lavern Denise Hopper, his twin sister, Leann Thurman, Leonya Thurman and Leondrea Thurman; brothers, Tyrese Wray, Thomas Eugene Hopper, Eddie Dean McShaw and Leondre Thurman; his grandmother, Ruthie Thurman; his great-grandmother, Connie Mae Surratt; nephews, Montrell Murray, Donnell Murray Jr. and Kenneth Eugene Patterson Jr.; niece, Kenya Hopper; special cousin, Quavis Thurman; his girlfriend, Aniger Ross; a very special friend, Crystal Dowdle; his foster parents, William and Mary Dixon, all of Shelby; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral: Saturday, March 6, 3 p.m., Mount Calvary Baptist Church

Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour before the service, at the church and other times at the home of his mother, 401 Mint St., Shelby and his aunt, Connie Ponder, 308 Palm St., Shelby.
