NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Minister James Albert Roberts, 70, of 35 Maple Ave., quietly said farewell on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at White Plains Hospital, in White Plains, NY.

He was born April 4, 1940 in Cleveland County, N.C. to the late Clarence and Kathleen Edwards Roberts.
James started his education in Cleveland County public schools. At the age of 18, he left his home in pursuit of his dreams, which brought him to New York.
He continued his education at Fordham University and achieved his degree in Business Management.
It wasn't long before he found a job in a bakery and a place to worship God. Things continued to blossom as he met some life-long friends and formed a singing group the "American Trumpets" which later recorded an album.
In 1958, he became employed by Oak Hill Chevrolet which lasted for the next 15 years. During that time, he was blessed to meet the love of his life Bobbie Waller.
As the blessings kept coming, James desires grew, which then led him to be become a business owner of All Model Auto Repair, two gas stations, two used car lots and a store for the next 30 plus years. James devoted the next 10 plus years to serve and protect as a Deputy Sher-iff for Westchester County, a deacon, a member of the men's choir and as a director of his church's two youth choirs. He then accepted his call to ministry and was ordained in 2002.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Roberts and L.C. Roberts; three sisters, Yolanda Roberts, Virginia Lawla and Helen Washington.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, his wife, Bobbie Roberts of Virginia Beach, Va; one son, David P. Peeler of Mt. Vernon; three daugh-ters, Tina Roberts, of New Rochelle, Pamalon Roberts of Virginia Beach, Va. and Donna Roberts of Atlanta, Ga; one brother, Thomas Rob-erts (Minnie) of Shelby, N.C.; three sisters, Margaret Roberts of Salisbury, N.C., Rosa Stanfield (Willie) of Houston, Texas and Jacqueline Surratt (Michael) of Loganville, Ga.; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Waller of New Rochelle; two sisters-in-law, Hester Roberts of Shelby, N.C. and Odessa Godfney of New Rochelle; two brothers-in-law, Jacob Waller of New Rochelle and Max Howell, Sr. of Shelby, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral: Tuesday, June 15, 12 p.m., Waddell Chapel AME Zion Church, Shelby, N.C.
Visitation: The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service at the church.
