BESSEMER CITY- Larry Patton Birt Sr. , 65, passed away Friday, Oct. 1, 2010 at Carolinas Medical Center.
He was born on Aug. 14, 1945 in Logan County, West Virginia, son of the late Harrison Joseph Birt and Frieda Mae Fleming Birt.
He served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Larry was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Shelby where he taught Sunday School, played trumpet in the church orchestra and taught trumpet also. He preached at the cottage prayer meetings and worked with teens for over 30 years.
He was a retired detective with the Gaston County Police Department where he served for almost 20 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry Birt Jr.
Mr. Birt is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janice W. Birt; son and daughter-in-law, John and Jenny Birt of Shelby; daughter and son-in-law, Kristi and Bruce Morrow of Kings Mountain; sister, Janice Brooks of Nashville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Justin, Hannah, and Harrison Morrow; Michael and Taylor Birt; Amber and Jessica Hamilton.

Visitation: Monday, 6 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church in Shelby
Funeral: Tuesday, 2 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church
Officiated by: Dr. Barry Goodman and Brother Johnny Owens.
Burial: Westview Gardens in Bessemer City
