SHELBY-Mr. Ralph Rhyne Walters, of 125 Country Club Road, died Oct. 25, 2010, at Kings Mountain Hospice House.

Mr. Walters was born on March 23, 1921, in Mooresville, to the late Carl Bernie and Henrietta Chester Walters. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a 1949 graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College, where he played on the football team and served as senior class president. After graduating he taught school and coached the girl's basketball team at Gaffney High School for one year. In 1950 he and his brother, Charles, opened Joy Crème Doughnut Company in Shelby. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He loved his family and was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Mr. Walters was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Meroney Walters in 1994; brothers, Charles and Ray Walters and sis-ters, Margaret Jones, and Caroleen Hoyle.
He is survived by three sons, Wayne Walters and his wife, Ann, of Calhoun, Ga., Bill Walters and his wife, Lois, of Nashville, Tenn. and Flynn Walters of Grover; one daughter, Susan Walters Martin and her husband, Roger, of Shelby. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Tim Walters and his wife, Lisa, of Salisbury, Laura Walters, Kim Banks, Meleah Landers and her husband Matthew, Holly Wright and her husband, Barry all of Ga., Heather Hinkson and her husband, Sam of Ky., Josh Walters and his wife Karina, Katie Jenkins and her husband Jeremy, Seth Walters, and Luke Walters all of Nashville, Tenn.; Matthew Martin and his wife Christie and Jennifer Martin all of Shelby and Angela Walters of Grover. He is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren; Dustin, Courtland, Shadow, Hunter, Nick, Seth, Megan, Jacob, Ethan L., Abby, Clark, Ethan, Radnor, Ace, Caleb, Eli, Stella, Jasmine and Summer; brothers-in-law, Roger Hoyle and Tommy Meroney and sister-in-law, Viola Walters and a special friend, Edith White.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday, at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and all other times the family will be at the home
Funeral: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cleveland Memorial Park
