SHELBY - Mr. Billy Joe Hayes, 56, of 420 Suttle Street, Shelby, died Thursday, September 29, 2011, at Wendover Hospice, in Shelby. He was born July 20, 1955, to the late Jack and Flossie Allen Hayes, in Cleveland County.

Billy Joe was a member of White Oak Springs Baptist Church. He was formerly employed by P.P.G. Industries and Kennedy Construction Company. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Williams, his grandmother, Charlie Lou Pryor Hayes and his grandmother, Ruth Smith Allen.
He is survived by one son, Ricardo Thurman of Shelby; four brothers, Dean Allen of Gaffney, S.C., the Rev. Johnny Hayes (Mae) and Jimmy Hayes both of Shelby, Douglas Hayes (Vicki) of Gaffney, S.C.; four sisters, Elizabeth Fuller (Harvey) and Debbie Carol Hayes both of Shelby, Charlene Ross (Tommy) of Blacksburg, S.C., and Jackie Hayes (Mark Taylor – fiancé) of Shelby; aunts, Lela Mae Watkins (Nelson) of Lawndale, and Estelle Allen of Shelby; an uncle, T. K. Watkins of Lawndale; grandchildren Ricardo Thurman, Jr., Lakya Thurman, Ryasia Thurman, Killieus Borders, Briana Corry and Alyiah Corry; nieces and nephews he reared, Brian Hayes, Jonterius Kee, Kerria Bell, Iesha Bell and Aniyah Hayes, all of the home
Visitation: The family will receive visitors from 2-2:30 p.m. at the church on Tuesday.
Funeral Service: Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church
Officiated By: Pastor Danté Murphy will officiate, and the Rev. Bennie Gene Pryor will give the eulogy.
Burial: Following the service at Webb Memorial Lawns.
