SHELBY-Polly Jean McSwain Wortman, 83, of 217 Beaver Dam Drive, died Jan. 10, 2012, at Crawley Memorial .

Mrs. Polly Wortman was born in Cleveland County. She retired from Fiber Industries and was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, clipping coupons, cooking and loved her grandchildren.
She was preceded by her parents, Berry McSwain and Eula Brooks McSwain; brothers –in-law, Ben Tate, Mike Reep and Bill Arms.
She is survived by husband, of 65 years, John Leon Wortman of the home; three sons, Ted Wortman and wife, Rosemary, Kevin Wortman and wife, Rhonda, Neal Wortman and wife, Alica, all of Shelby; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Borders and Brendan Hanley, Kristi Bowen and husband, Marty, Erin Sarratt and husband, Jason, Heather Stephens, John Wortman, Zachary Wortman, Eli Wortman and wife, Lauren, and Samuel Wortman; eight great-grandchildren, Alexis Bowen, Mary Logan Bowen, Caroline Borders, Corbyn Wiggins, Emma Sarratt, Caden Price, Tate Stephens, Calvin Wortman; two sisters, Betty Tate of Shelby and Dianne Arms of Forest City, two brothers, Alton McSwain and wife, Goldie of Shelby, Donald McSwain and Javita of Hickory; sister-in-law, Doris McDaniel and husband, Douglas of Kings Mountain.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Thursday at Beaver Dam Baptist Church
