SHELBY- Mrs. Comilla "Mill" Lee Withrow Sinkler, 90, formerly of 516 Monroe Street in Shelby, departed this life on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Alexandria Place Nursing Home in Gastonia. She was born on July 11, 1922, in Hollis, to the late Sherman and Amanda Houser Withrow.
Comilla was a faithful member of Durham United Methodist Church in Shelby. After ten years of service, Comilla retired from Hoechst Celanese Corps, only to begin a new career with the N.C. Service for the Blind.
Comilla loved to sew, making and altering clothes for family and friends. In addition, she enjoyed upholstering furniture and working in her flower bed. She was a regular at Cleveland Technical College taking classes in upholstery shop, machine shop and assistant nursing training.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow "Jake" Sinkler; a great-grandson, Yamil Calvin Sinkler; her brothers, Henry Withrow and wife Rossie, Van Withrow and wife Henrietta, Zan Withrow, Glenn Withrow and wife Vernell, Clarence Withrow and wife Bettye, and Carl Withrow; and two sisters, Frances Withrow, and Minnie Bell and husband Rufus.
Left to cherish her memory are one son, Glenn Sinkler and wife Janet of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Roslyn Sinkler of Belmont; a sister, Helen Love and husband Carl of Shelby; a "special" brother, Joe Hunt and wife Mary of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Jamilah "Ari" Sinkler of Belmont, Leonittra Moore and husband Adam of Columbia, S.C., and Jamarr Ingram of Wilmington; a greatgrandson, Azariah Moore; an additional brother-in-law, Manning "Stick" Sinkler and wife Novella of Shelby; three sisters-in-law, Louise Muldrow and husband Preacher of Darlington, S.C., Emily Withrow of Shelby, and Anita Withrow of Raleigh; and a host of special nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday prior to the service, and at other times at the home of her sister, Helen Love, 518 April Drive, Shelby.
Funeral Service: 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Lawndale
Officiated By: The Rev. Billy Houze. Pastor Aldana Allen will deliver the eulogy.
Burial: Webb Memorial Lawns
