MOORESBORO-Opel Dennis Earls, 64, of Beachwood Road, Mooresboro, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Opal and Sarah Estelle Godfrey Earls. He is also predeceased by a sister, Carolyn Earls; and two brothers, John Earls and Buck Earls.
He was a member of Camps Creek Baptist Church. He worked in construction as an industrial electrician before becoming disabled, and then became a full time Pawpaw. Opel was truly a kind man. He saw the best in everyone and, in every instance, put others before himself. He always found joy and laughter in friends and family. He never met a stranger and was always wearing a warm and welcome smile.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 35 years, Joyce Graves Earls of the home; a son, Opel Dennis (Opie) Earls II and wife Nikki; and his heart, his loving grandson, Elijah Zachary Earls, all of Mooresboro. Also left to cherish fond memories are brothers, Wilbur Lee Earls, George G. Earls and wife Pandora, Arthur P. Earls and wife Jolynne, Joel D. Earls and wife Shirley, all of Mooresboro, Tracy Earls and wife Stacie of Conover, and Joseph Earls and wife Robin of Statesville. Surviving sisters are Norma Sue Keown and husband Carl, Cynthia Bridges and husband Rick, all of Mooresboro, Judy (Susie) Henderson and husband Terry of Spartanburg, S.C., and Mary Drake of Gaffney, S.C.; sisters-in-law, Sallie Earls of Mooresboro, Tina Earls of Bostic, Myrtle Bell of Kings Mountain; brother-in-law, Terry Wiggins of Inman, S.C.; and his mother-in-law, Mary G. Wiggins of Gaffney, S.C., who loved him as a son.
