SHELBY-Mrs. Evangeline Dawkins Blackmon, 70, departed this life on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Peak Resources in Shelby.
She was born on June 7, 1942, in Cleveland County to the late Fred and Katie Odoms Dawkins.
"Fox" as she was known by her family was a graduate of Douglas High School. She left Shelby and resided in St. Albans, N.Y., where she worked in the home health field until relocating back to Shelby in 1996. A mostly quiet and reserved person, she enjoyed gardening and loved her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Archie Stringer and Chester Blackmon Jr.; two sons, Mark Stringer and John Stringer; two daughters, Shaunta and Nora Stringer; and her siblings, Fred Dawkins Jr., Ernestine Dawkins, Terri Dawkins, Rudolph Dawkins, Leila Dawkins, Elsie Dawkins, Dupree Dawkins, Randolph Dawkins and Albert Dawkins.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Cassandra Stringer Howell (Plato) and Shanese Durant, both of Shelby; two sons, Boris Stringer and Tony Stringer, both of N.Y.; two sisters, Louise McDowell and Joyce Moore, both of Shelby; her brother, Larry Dawkins (Sarah) of Shelby; her grandchildren, Mark Stringer Jr., Ashley Stringer, Markila Stringer, Rico Brown, Tyrell Stringer, Trinity Durant, Somaya Stringer, Rudy Whitworth, Zalenthia Koylonie and Mason Stringer; five great-grandchildren, Caleb and Khalil Gregory, Nehemiah and Niyana Whitworth, and Lytic Fauntleroy; in-laws, Cynthia Stringer of N.Y., and Debra Dawan and Veronette Perry, both of Shelby; three aunts, Shirley Ramseur of Shelby, Marie Dawkins and Viola Littlejohn, both of Gaffney, S.C.; three special friends, Ada Powell, Della Lomick and Margaret Surratt, all of Shelby; and a host of other in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church, and at other times at the home of her brother, Larry Dawkins, 1637 Friendship Road, Shelby.
Funeral Service: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Shiloh Baptist Church
